For nine years, Bank of Scotland Foundation has been Helping Scotland Prosper using an annual donation from Lloyds Banking Group to fund charities across Scotland through Grants Programmes and a Matched Giving Programme for Lloyds Banking Group’s employees in Scotland.  The Foundation has now distributed over £14m to over 1,800 charities enabling over 600,000 people to benefit from a variety of much needed local services and personal support.

The Foundation is widely respected for the quality of its grant making and for its commitment to supporting small and medium charities working in some of Scotland’s most deprived communities, addressing areas such as homelessness, debt management, reducing isolation and supporting job creation.

In February 2019, the Foundation’s annual donation from Lloyds Banking Group was almost £5m, a significant increase from the £2m received annually in previous years.  To ensure this funding can be distributed to Scotland’s charities effectively and efficiently, they have taken the opportunity to rethink their approach to how they invest and become a more flexible grant maker by tailoring their programmes to the needs of those they support.  As a result, they have recently introduced their new five-year strategy “Supporting Positive Change Across Scotland” which will see a range of new funding programmes open in 2019 and 2020, available to charities that demonstrate they address social exclusion or disadvantage.

The Foundation are seeking two Trustees to join their Board and contribute to their ambitious new strategy.  Potential candidates could come from a variety of different backgrounds and should have a good knowledge of the issues facing local communities and the voluntary sector. They should have experience of working at board level and be confident that they can make a valuable contribution to the Foundation’s work.

Trustees play a vital role, overseeing the management of the Foundation and acting as ambassadors for the Foundation across every sector of society.  Trustees are appointed for an initial three year period and meetings take place quarterly.  The commitment required is one day per quarter, plus reading and reviewing papers. Occasional stakeholder engagement activities also require participation from the Trustees, such as the Foundation’s Annual Parliamentary Reception and charity visits. There is no remuneration for this work, however all necessary travel and accommodation expenses will be fully reimbursed.

If you feel you have the experience, passion and commitment to be appointed as a Trustee of Bank of Scotland Foundation, then please apply below by completing the short form and uploading your CV and covering letter.
