This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, resilient, people-oriented, problem-solver to lead a high profile team that plays a core role supporting the Council’s senior managers and elected members to set the organisation’s strategic and operational ambitions; facilitate inclusion, diversity and equality; track progress, drive continuous improvement and report to the communities it serves.

This is a key leadership role responsible for delivering step-change modernisation, integration and redesign of the Council’s corporate policy, community planning, self-evaluation / continuous improvement and equalities functions.

Working within the new established Strategic Insight and Communities division the Strategic Services Development Manager will be responsible for building a team that is: outward facing, efficient and adaptable; aware of current and developing policy and best practice across the UK and beyond and capable of generating clear and concise, high-value rapid-response one-touch briefings, reports and think pieces at short notice.

Working closely with the new Data & Business Intelligence Team this role will further strengthen the Council’s existing integrated strategic and operational planning and performance framework. The role will also require the post-holder to develop strong links with the Community Learning & Development Team in order to ensure communities are empowered and able to influence strategy, policy on an ongoing basis.

The successful applicant will be: a highly-motivated individual, with a strong understanding of best value, policy, performance and improvement; a confident and capable user of modern software tools and platforms; and a skilled and successful people manager who can pivot from big picture issues to pieces of work that require a detail focused approach.
