The Charity

Feeling Strong are Dundee’s dedicated youth mental health charity. Set up in early 2018 with a mission to tackle Dundee’s inadequate mental health landscape, Feeling Strong began with a simple idea and a clear objective: designed by young people, delivered by young people, for the benefit of young people.

What started as a social media page aiming to highlight daily mental health struggles led to an organic growth in the organisation over the last 5 years and has resulted in a variety of projects around recovery, support, community, and campaigns. This includes initiatives aimed at supporting young people across three workstreams – Recovery & Support, Community & Learning, and Campaigns & Content – all designed to tackle stigma, build confidence, develop resources, create networks and most importantly support the positive recovery journey of Dundee’s young people.

Behind Feeling Strong are a dynamic and values-driven team who all share a belief in Feeling Strong’s mission, to make sure that every young person aged 8-26 in Dundee who has experienced a mental health or wellbeing challenge is supported to reach their full potential.

The Role

They will provide leadership to the organisation and act as lead for running the day-to-day operations of the charity. A large part of the role will also be to lead development and direction for delivering Feeling Strong’s strategic plan which has just been laid out for the next 3 years.

Working closely with the three workstream  coordinators, the successful candidate will ensure the development of the services and projects, manage income generation, partnerships, compliance and reporting to the board of trustees.

As enshrined in the Equality Act 2010, the team are a group of committed young adults (all under 30) making sure the needs of their peers are felt and respected, and crucially acted upon. Feeling Strong have a belief that this youth-led/peer-led approach is their biggest asset in tackling issues around mental health and wellbeing, acting as the authentic voice of the young people they represent.

As a result, this role will only be open to candidates under the age of 30.

The Person

This is a unique opportunity for an exceptional individual to catapult their career leading an extremely value-led charity and to make real-life impact for young people. You’ll have a chance to develop a breadth and depth of understanding in the third sector and mental health world. You’ll be exposed to the challenges and opportunities of this sector that most young people won’t have.

A connection to Dundee would be a bonus. Most important, will be able to demonstrate values-driven behaviours.

Training will be provided to the successful candidate to help you develop your skills in this post.
