The role

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is seeking an Interim Director of Operations to oversee the operational running of the organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, the successful candidate will lead and direct teams responsible for Animal Welfare, Rehoming Operations, Veterinary Care, Business Facilities, and Finance. This is a crucial role in ensuring the organisation operates within a highly effective environment, delivering on its mission while providing the best possible care for the animals in their care.

As an essential member of the Home’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development and leadership of the organisation, supporting the implementation of the organisational strategy. This role involves strategic oversight of key areas, including kennel and cattery operations, training programs, rehoming practices, veterinary operations, facilities management, and business development.

The candidate

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, approachable and dynamic professional who will be a key member of the Home’s SLT and join a passionate team, ensuring that the Home is able to meet its mission and ensure to represent the Home’s brand and mission both externally and internally in all that you do.

The ideal candidate will be a credible leader with significant demonstrable experience in an operational/organisational related role and working as part of a senior leadership team. The successful candidate will showcase compassionate and empathetic leadership skills, demonstrating an ability to play a pivotal role in navigating challenging and emotionally charged decision-making situations.

The ideal candidate will have experience with operational excellence: decisive about business activities that will deliver benefits, initiating action and managing resources. With a proven ability to develop operational services and lead on change management, they will have experience in building and implementing business management and development strategies. Experience of working within a not for profit organisation is desirable.

This role is ideally suited to an outgoing and positive character who has the ability to motivate and lead with passion and determination, who should show genuine interest and passion for dog and cat welfare and have an ability to lead by example with customer engagement, including demonstrating a passion for exceptional customer care.
