The Wise Group is a social enterprise that improves lives, communities, and businesses by building opportunities for the most vulnerable in society. The Wise Group do this by following a common set of values that build their relational approach and embody who they are and what they do. These values inspire the positive change that the Wise Group delivers for customers, colleagues, and stakeholders. With the current cost-of-living crisis, their purpose, and the way they achieve this, are more relevant, and more needed than ever. The Wise Group pride itself on its values, striving to:

  • Hurdle boundaries and innovate
  • Celebrate and respect individual difference
  • Are ambitious to make a real difference every day socially, financially, and culturally
  • Go the distance, so their colleagues and customers reach a positive and sustainable future
  • Thrive through collaboration, kindness, and learning together

The Wise Group is in search of three additional Non-Executive Directors who share in these values to join their dynamic and passionate Board. With an ambition and a passion to help many more vulnerable people and their families in the future, the newly strengthened Wise Group Board is focusing on delivering a significant growth strategy on a UK level which will be enabled by further strengthening the Board. New Board members will be tasked with supporting and challenging the Wise Group’s future investment, both in colleagues and in society through 2024 and beyond.

They will help build the positive reputation and credibility of the enterprise and the capacity for new sources of funding and re-investment. Furthermore, they will constructively challenge current programs and procedures, as well as offer senior counsel to the Executive Team to reinvigorate operational effectiveness whilst anticipating and advising the need for directional changes in Investment, Policy, and Governance.

The Wise Group are particularly interested in individuals with significant experience or expertise in one of the following areas:

  • Familiarity with the political landscape of North East and North West of England
  • Expertise in fostering radical people and culture
  • Proficiency in driving technological innovation

Candidates will be at a stage in their career where a voluntary role in a unique leadership position requiring a deep-rooted personal interest in and desire to help improve the lives of the most vulnerable holds great appeal. Alternatively, this role could be a valuable addition to a main career. Previous NED experience in an advisory capacity with an understanding of corporate governance is desirable.

The time commitment will centre around 15 days/annum for a period of 3 years, and this is a non-remunerated role, although reasonable expenses will be covered.
