Down’s Syndrome Scotland (DSS) is a parent led charity which was established in 1982.  They are the only charity in Scotland dedicated solely to supporting people with Down’s syndrome (Ds) and their carers – they know that every person with Down’s syndrome is a unique individual, full of potential. DSS provide information and support to people with Down’s syndrome, their families, carers and professionals at whatever age and stage of life. They also work to influence government policy to ensure that the society in which we all live reflects the needs of people with Down’s syndrome.

DSS are now looking for an experienced charity manager to fill the post of Head of Operations until August/September 2018. In July 2018 they will host the World Down Syndrome Congress in Glasgow and until that time the CEO will be focusing on ensuring that they deliver the best event possible.  Consequently, they’re looking for a safe and competent pair of hands to manage the operation of the charity until post Congress.

The Head of Operations will lead on key areas such as:

  • Specific Funding applications
  • Annual review and accounts
  • AGM
  • Media
  • HR
  • Data protection

You will also be responsible for staff management in the following areas of organisational activity:

  • Policy
  • Finance
  • Fundraising
  • Friends Connect Project
  • Commissioners Project
  • Communications Skills Project

The successful candidate will be someone with senior experience of managing the range of charity functions that form their organisation, as well as a track record of achieving success in applications for funding.   The ideal candidate would have knowledge of Down’s syndrome, or learning disability, but this is not essential.
