We are seeking a passionate, visionary leader to take up the post of Director of Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company (SBMC) and oversee the set-up, from scratch, of a £2 million+ manufacturing operation as a Social Enterprise for Veterans and others with disabilities. SBMC will be a new division of Royal British Legion Industries – an independent national charity aiming to provide employment, training and support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependents; as well as those with a disability or health condition and those who have been long term unemployed. Amongst other services, RBLI currently operate Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company (BBMC) – a social enterprise which manufactures a range of products for both the public and private sector. This generates £5m in revenue meaning that even more employment opportunities are available for injured or impaired ex-forces personnel and people with disabilities and health conditions.

The role of Director SBMC offers the unique opportunity for an inspirational leader with entrepreneurial flair to work with RBLI’s Director of Strategy and develop a successful, inspiring and energetic launch strategy for Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company. You will also have the opportunity to recruit a winning team and develop an appropriate network of supporters and customers. Following the set up of SBMC you will direct, lead and motivate the division and act as a beacon of sector collaboration by networking extensively, influencing the local and national political and social landscape and building the SBMC brand and reputation within Scotland, whilst remaining an integral part of the wider RBLI purpose.

This will be a demanding post requiring an experienced leader with strong financial and commercial literacy and at least 3 years proven experience of outstanding successful commercial performance at Managing Director level. You will be a confident and articulate communicator across all levels with a proven ability to act as an exemplary ambassador with a diverse range of stakeholders. It is crucial that you are passionate about helping, supporting and improving the lives of ex-service men and women and people with disabilities and you will be required to make decisions whilst attending to and balancing the needs and priorities of the business, customer, beneficiaries and team.
