The Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland’s National Academy is on an exciting journey to enhance its impact and reach. We are seeking an exceptional Director of Programmes, covering the breadth of RSE’s outward facing work, to help us realise our ambitions.

Established in 1783 for the advancement and learning and useful knowledge that remains the RSE’s mission: harnessing a diverse range of knowledge and deploying it for the benefit of Scotland and the wider world. RSE delivers on that mission through an extensive and varied programme of activity which seeks to inform and influence public policy; engage the public on contemporary issues; build research capacity and support the effective utilisation of research and; strengthen Scotland’s connections internationally. This is achieved through harnessing the expertise within RSE’s elected fellowship (which covers the breadth of academia, business, public service and the creative arts) and working in partnership with a wide range of other organisations.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader with a collaborative, entrepreneurial approach, excellent interpersonal skills and experience of managing a diverse portfolio of activity and developing high-performing teams. A demonstrable track record of developing and delivering programmes, building relationships of trust and influence and strategic thinking is essential as is a commitment to RSE’s mission. A broad understanding of some or all of the areas of RSE activity covered by the post and leading change would be desirable.
