Orkney Housing Association, the only Housing Association within the Orkney Islands, manages 846 rented and 129 shared ownership properties. We are delighted to be partnering with the organisation to complete the Leadership Team with the new appointment and welcome an experienced housing professional to the Association.

As Director of Housing & Operations, you will be the driving force behind all things housing in the organisation. Your key responsibilities will centre around:

Housing Management: Overseeing the management, development, and performance of property-related activities to ensure a sustainable and efficient portfolio and service.

Governance and Guidance: Providing specialised advice on housing regulation and management to ensure compliance and excellence.

Transformational Leadership: Leading business and service transformations, fostering innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Strategic Collaboration: Collaborating closely with the Leadership Team to contribute to and achieve overarching strategic goals.

In the midst of delivering an ambitious three-year Business Plan, Orkney Housing Association is steadfast in its commitment to keeping rents affordable for residents while upholding high-energy efficient standards. Recent success in securing support from the Scottish Government’s Social Housing Net Zero Heat Fund reflects the Association’s drive for sustainability and innovation, and the incoming Director would be expected to further champion these efforts.

We’re looking for someone with a strong background in housing management, ideally from a social landlord or local authority background. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in overseeing housing portfolios, a good understanding of housing regulation, and a track record of driving positive changes. We need a strategic thinker with effective leadership skills, ready to make a meaningful impact on the Orkney community as the Director of Housing & Operations at Orkney Housing Association. This opportunity is open to those looking to take a step-up, and to those from social housing backgrounds in the rest of the UK as well as Scotland.
