The Centre for the Moving Image (CMI) is a national organisation with bases in Edinburgh and Aberdeen. It is aiming to use film in all its guises to transform people’s lives – through the watching, making and understanding of film. The CMI currently incorporates Scotland’s leading independent cinema, Filmhouse, the world’s longest continually running film festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Filmhouse Café Bar, and the Belmont Filmhouse in Aberdeen. It is also involved in a wide range of sectoral partnerships, including Scottish Film, Festivals Edinburgh, Scottish Film Talent Network and Edinburgh Cultural Venues.

The organisation have major ambitions to develop in the coming years and we are seeking a Director of Finance and Operations to join CMI and play a critical part in delivering against those ambitions – including the physical development of a reimagined Filmhouse.

The role will be diverse with leadership required across two distinct areas: Governance and Finance, and Business Systems and Operations (including Commercial Trading). As Director of Finance and Operations, you will ensure effective legal, financial and regulatory compliance of all aspects of the business and support the effective operation of the Board and Audit and Risk Committee. You will be able to drive organisational change, whilst delivering key day-to-day business objectives in an efficient and effective manner. In addition, you will offer support in securing appropriate levels of income, investment and funds to drive the ambitions of the organisation.

We are seeking an individual with a sound understanding of the aims and values of the CMI, who can take a lead role in delivering success. The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant, with experience in producing management accounts, and with experience in charity finance, supported by experience and understanding of Companies House and OSCR reporting requirements. They will have a strong operational focus, and be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills, strong people management and proven business acumen. Managing a wide set of responsibilities within a complex work environment is crucial to this role, and so the ideal candidate must be adaptable and committed to excellence.
