Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is the Scottish Government’s economic and community development agency for a diverse and beautiful region which covers more than half of Scotland. HIE aspires to generate inclusive growth in every part of the region, and make a strong contribution to Scotland’s economic progress.

The Highlands and Islands is a region that is rich in opportunities, but also faces a distinctive set of challenges.

With more than 50 years’ experience, HIE enjoys a reputation as one of Europe’s leading development agencies – helping to grow businesses and sectors, strengthening communities, and generating innovative ideas to increase population and overcome geographical barriers.

HIE are now seeking an outstanding leader to build on this success and create the next wave of initiatives that will underpin and accelerate future growth in all parts of the Highlands and Islands.

You will oversee the development of their long-term plans for regional growth and build strong relationships and networks within central and local government, universities and the public,  private and third sectors in Scotland, the UK and overseas. Ensuring alignment with Scotland’s Economic Strategy and driving collaboration with Scotland’s other enterprise and skills organisations will be key priorities. Making connections between people, resources and places, you will engender passion for HIE’s ambitions and lead a skilled and dedicated team to deliver their goals.

You have significant, relevant experience of leading an organisation, and developing influential high-level relationships and public/private partnerships. Comfortable working internationally, you are an inspirational and visionary leader with an excellent grasp of economic and community development, a clear understanding of organisational strategy and an appetite to succeed. A proven track record of risk and financial management is essential, together with an understanding of alternative and collaborative funding models. Excellent people management and communication skills are vital.
