Scottish Veterans Residences (SVR) is a Registered Scottish Charity established in 1910 and is Scotland’s oldest military charity. SVR supports ex-service men and women of all ages in residences in Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow. SVR’s operational arm is Scottish Veterans Housing Association which provides supported accommodation for homeless Veterans who have fallen on difficult times and also provides a small number of rented properties occupied by Veterans and their families.

To help SVR build on the first class support they provide, we are looking to appoint a Chief Executive to lead, develop, deliver and sustain the Charity’s work throughout Scotland and the UK.  Reporting to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Committee of Management, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and person-centred delivery of support and comfort, for homeless Veterans within bespoke accommodation and ensuring that SVR’s tenants are provided with high quality, affordable rented accommodation.

The role holder will be accountable for developing effective working relationships with the Scottish Government, City and Local Councils, the Third Sector, the Armed Forces and other bodies and individuals on behalf of Veterans. A key accountability of the post is the responsibility of effective operations within the governance regime of Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, Care Inspectorate, Scottish Housing Regulator and other statutory bodies.  

The ideal candidate will have a background of Military service, this coupled with experience within Health and Social Care would be highly advantageous. Having involvement within the Defence Medical Services would also be sought after for this particular individual.

The essential requirements that are required to undertake this role are:

        Military service or a detailed understanding of Military life.

        An absolute focus upon delivering for the Veterans that the charity supports.

        Leaderships skills based upon empathy and understanding.

        Proven experience and skills in working with and supporting people.

        Excellent communication skills.

        Independence of thought, strong analytical and planning skills; allied with reasoned thinking and the  determination to deliver.

         Full UK driving license.

         The successful completion of a Full PVG clearance with Disclosure Scotland.

The desirable criteria for this role are:

         Experience or knowledge of working within the Health and Social Care environment.

         Experience or knowledge of working within the Social Housing Sector.

         Service within the Defence Medical Services.
