SCIAF
Board Members

SCIAF is the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund, and is the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in Scotland. SCIAF works with some of the poorest and most vulnerable people around the world, regardless of gender, class, race or religion. With a philosophy of giving people in need a hand up, not a hand out, SCIAF helps people provide for themselves and their families, creating hope for the future.

SCIAF is driven by its values of dignity, empowerment, solidarity and hope. These values underpin and infuse everything it does, and are shared and upheld by everyone who works with the organisation.

We are recruiting one member of the Board of Directors and two members of the Outreach and Fundraising Committee. These appointments are key for SCIAF and we are looking to talk to a broad range of candidates to join in these roles.

Although prior non-executive director experience is not essential, candidates should already have significant experience of working beyond their own organisations in professional or business networks or similar organisations and have a good understanding of the role of working in a non-executive director position. You will be able to use your relevant expertise to develop the organisation at board level, inform strategic decisions, and guide the management and direction of this national charity.

Board of Directors

You will be responsible for directing the affairs of SCIAF through efficient, effective and accountable governance, ensuring that the organisation is solvent, well run and most importantly that its activities are in the interests of its beneficiaries – the people who need it most.

A combination of the following skills and competencies are important when recruiting for this position: analytical/strategic thinking, commercial acumen, HR/Operational development, ecclesiastical knowledge and a background in international development.

Outreach and Fundraising Committee

The committee’s overall purpose and responsibility is to support, monitor and advise on the development of SCIAF’s Scotland-facing work and its accountability to its partners, supporters, donors and stakeholders.

You will play an active part in the committee’s work, making recommendations to the board about SCIAF’s outreach, fundraising, education and communications work, strategies and plans in these areas, reviewing past successes and offering advice and support to develop SCIAF’s profile and fundraising reach in Scotland.

An understanding of the Church would be hugely beneficial for these positions, and the roles are open to candidates of all faiths and backgrounds.

For a confidential discussion about the role please contact Debbie Shields on 0141 212 7555.

Closing date for applications is Monday 28th January 2018.
