Director of Centre for Tropical Livestock Genetics & Health

The Director will be responsible for overall strategy and portfolio of research activities, seek to secure leveraged funding and lead stakeholder engagement relevant to the Centre.  In keeping with the seniority of this position, the Director will hold a permanent research Chair within The Roslin Institute of the University of Edinburgh’s Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies on the Easter Bush Campus.  With this positioning, the successful candidate will be able to lead their own research programme at The Roslin Institute within the broad area of tropical livestock genetics and health.

The postholder will lead on developing and nurturing strategic partnerships and linkages, seek funding and oversee CTLGH research activity.  The Director of the CTLGH reports to the Principals Group which consists of three members who are the leaders of the strategic partner institutions – SRUC, ILRI and The Roslin Institute.  Working with the Director through regular meetings, the Principals Group provides oversight to the Centre and its programmes under the terms of the Framework Collaboration Agreement signed by each of the three strategic partners.  The Principals Group also facilitate involvement of each institutions staff contributing to CTLGH (while retaining line management through their respective institution structure) and interact with the International Scientific Advisory Committee (ISAC).

The Director manages CTLGH through the Central Management Group (CMG) and core CTLGH support staff.  The CMG consists of one senior member of each strategic partner institutions.  These individuals are each designated Deputy Directors of CTLGH.
