Move On – CEO
About Move On
For almost 30 years, Move On has supported people across Glasgow and Edinburgh who are facing a wide range of challenges. This can be experience of the criminal justice system; in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction; long-term unemployment; are or have been impacted by homelessness; and poor mental or physical health.
We believe that we all need support at different times in our lives. For too many people a lack of opportunities is a barrier to reaching their full potential. We want to change that.
Our services offer everyone an equal chance to gain experience, skills and confidence, achieve personal goals and reach a brighter future. For one person that could be building the self-confidence to use public transport alone, for someone else it could be earning the qualifications they need to secure their first job.
Every day we support people in their next steps to live an independent and fulfilling life.
Our services include:
- Mentoring
We link volunteer mentors with young people displaying “at risk” signs. These signs may be low attendance at school; welfare issues at home; poor mental health; lack of positive social networks; or being bullied. A consistent and trusted adult in a young person’s life can support them to take part in new experiences, develop skills, and increase their confidence. - Skills and employability
We offer a variety of employability courses for people facing complex barriers to work. All of our courses support people to increase their confidence; gain qualifications; develop and improve their CV; build work skills; set goals; and raise their aspirations.
Through our social enterprise, FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland, we are also able to offer practical work experience, including driving lessons and forklift operator training.
We are an SQA accredited centre and offer SQA Awards in Core Skills, Employability, Personal Development and the Certificate of Work Readiness.
- Literacy, numeracy and financial capability support
We support people to feel more confident in their reading, writing, spelling, number work, IT skills and oral communication through one-to-one and group work activities.
We apply a trauma skilled, person-centred approach to addressing people’s needs, ensuring that they have a dedicated key worker who will listen to their concerns and respond, working with them on their individual challenges to unlock potential so that they can achieve employability outcomes and progressions.
We offer a flexible, outcome-focussed service, maximising impact by working with individuals to be in control of setting and achieving personal goals. We maximise impact by ensuring individuals are in control of setting and achieving personal goals.
We are committed to supporting people where they need it, when they need it and for as long as they need it.
