About

St Mary’s Kenmure is a registered independent charity based in Bishopbriggs, north of Glasgow. We provide secure residential care and education for children and young people under the age of 18 who require intensive, specialist support. Our practice is grounded in our core values of Nurture, Connection, Stability and Opportunity to Thrive. These values shape how we work with children and young people, how we support one another as colleagues, and how we collaborate with partners across the system.

St Mary’s Kenmure offers a highly integrated model of care, bringing together residential support, education, psychological and health interventions within a safe, secure and therapeutic environment. We respond to each young person’s individual needs, addressing risk, promoting wellbeing and working collaboratively with families, placing authorities and community partners to achieve positive and lasting outcomes.

Upholding children’s rights is central to everything we do. We are committed to advocacy, participation and relationship‑based practice, ensuring that young people are supported to grow, develop and experience meaningful opportunities for connection, learning and personal achievement.

Our secure estate comprises five residential house units, each staffed and resourced to meet specific needs. The campus also includes a separate non‑secure children’s house. Young people have access to a wide range of high‑quality recreational facilities, supporting physical wellbeing, routine and positive use of time.

We employ around 100 staff across a growing, multidisciplinary workforce. Our teams include highly skilled professionals who are committed to working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to #KeepThePromise and contribute to the national programme of change within Scotland’s care system.

Together, we are actively shaping policy, practice and culture to better meet the needs of children and young people in secure care.

The number of children and young people in secure care in Scotland is updated daily and published by SAN Scotland – Secure Accommodation Network Scotland. Our latest accounts and information on our Board of Directors are publicly available. Responsibility for secure care at national level sits within the Scottish Government’s Young People and Families Directorate.
