Edinburgh/Hybrid
SIS Ventures is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Social Investment Scotland Group, a social enterprise and charity with a mission to ‘connect capital with communities, to make a real, measurable and sustainable impact upon people’s lives.’ This connection comes primarily in the form of impact investments, investments made with the intention to generate positive, measurable social and environmental impact alongside a financial return. SIS drives this inclusive and conscientious growth across 5,000 social entrepreneurs, enterprises and third sector organisations throughout Scotland.
SIS Ventures makes a significant contribution towards this goal as the lead impact investor in the young company finance market in Scotland. SIS Ventures runs the Impact First Fund, supporting high-impact, high-growth potential businesses with equity finance tailored to their needs. They work with founders and management teams committed to bringing positive change to the people and places they interact with. SIS Ventures are excited to now look for a dedicated Executive Director to join the SIS team and lead this part of the organisation.
The Executive Director role presents an exciting opportunity to play an important part in the growth and development of the whole SIS Group. The Executive Director, supported by the rest of the SIS leadership team and other enabling functions, will provide operational leadership to a small team of investment professionals providing investment to impact-led enterprises as well as giving them the tools, support and inspiration to create and grow their impact.
The Executive Director has the chance to take the growth and development of SIS Ventures to the next level, from its current portfolio of 12 investments. The post holder will be tasked with managing the investment strategy, overseeing all investment activity and nurturing the relationships with investees including attending board meetings of the longer-standing portfolio relationships. The Executive Director will work with the SIS CEO, SIS Ventures Board and SIS Group Board alongside the executive team to provide operational and strategic leadership to the subsidiary and to contribute to the strategic direction of the Group.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience of operating at a senior level in a relevant environment, with particular knowledge of young company finance. A Chartered Accountant qualification is desirable but not necessary as long as the ability to understand and interpret complex financial information is possessed. Grant management or fundraising experience would also hold the candidate in good stead; as would an awareness or knowledge of the third sector and social enterprise. Above all, the candidate must share in the vision of SIS of creating positive social impact and will be a values-driven and communicative leader.
