The Role

The role of a Trustee at Seamab is both interesting and varied. Our Trustees have ultimate responsibility for the development of the strategy and policy of the charity, as well as an oversight of services we deliver. Trustees undertake a wide range of roles but are mainly responsible for making the charity effective, providing overall direction and maintaining sound management of funds.

In the delivery of our care services, we need Trustees who are able to contribute to our work in providing trauma informed care, reviewing our key risks and opportunities and ensuring we are developing evaluation tools and models to assess our approach. Knowledge and experience of the social work and/or the care sector and children’s services are an area where we require new expertise to replace those Trustees stepping down.

We are interested in hearing from those who have one or more of the following:

• Successful experience of operating within a board or at a senior management level in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation.
• Demonstrable experience of building and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues to achieve organisational objectives
• A proven track record of sound judgement and effective decision-making
• A track record of commitment to promoting equality and diversity

We aim to have a Board which covers the key areas in which we work, and we are now seeking to appoint additional members, as outlined above.  We are especially keen to hear from those with a social care/social work background.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a commitment to good governance and a desire to achieve our vision. We welcome applications from experienced and first-time board members with the appropriate skills.

What does it involve?

You will need to commit to four Board meetings a year.  Board meetings are held during working hours, usually Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm.  In between Board meetings you will be responding to emails and reading papers.

The successful candidate will also be a key member of the Children and Young People’s Committee, which meets quarterly before each Board meeting.  Committee meetings are also held during working hours.

This is a voluntary position; however appropriate expenses can be paid in line with our Expenses Policy.

Trustees of Seamab (a charity Registered in Scotland Number SC011002) are also Directors of Seamab (a company limited by guarantee, Registered in Scotland Number SC037461}. Our Trustees serve for a term of four years and are eligible for re-election for one further term (and subject to a further four-year term if elected as an office bearer).
