Human Resource Director – People & Culture
Glasgow
£78,859 – £87,600 per annum

This role provides strategic leadership and direction for the College’s People & Culture functions, supporting the Vice Principal, Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Senior Management Team (SMT) in delivering the Board’s strategic plan and establishing City of Glasgow College as a world-class learning and teaching institution. As a key senior leader, the postholder will be accountable for Culture, Human Resources, Payroll, Organisational Development, Wellbeing, and Diversity & Equality, ensuring services are benchmarked to the highest standards. The role involves shaping and implementing the People & Culture Strategy, driving culture change, talent management, and workforce planning, while fostering innovation, employee engagement, and continuous improvement. Acting as a trusted adviser to senior leaders and the Board, the postholder will lead a high-performing directorate, champion inclusion, wellbeing and organisational excellence, manage strategic risks and budgets, and build strong internal and external partnerships to position the College as an employer of choice with a distinctive “Team City” ethos.

About You

You will be a professionally qualified HR leader (degree level and CIPD membership or equivalent) with evidence of continuous professional development and significant experience of leading HR at a strategic level in a diverse, complex and highly unionised organisation. With up-to-date expertise in employment law, change management and people strategy, you will have a proven track record of shaping positive organisational cultures, managing large-scale change, and working collaboratively with trade unions and senior stakeholders. You will bring exceptional communication, problem-solving and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, delegate effectively, manage budgets, and deliver results under pressure. Above all, you will demonstrate vision, creativity and innovation, with a strong sense of purpose and the ability to motivate others, drive performance, and respond to the needs of a diverse community.
