Welcome
Thank you for your interest in Carers UK and the Director of the Devolved Nations role.
This is a hugely exciting time for our organisation as we celebrate our 60th anniversary year, focusing on the success that has been achieved to date, but more importantly on what more needs to be done for carers to achieve equality in all aspects of their lives, embodied in our theme for the year Equality Today and Tomorrow. This role is critical to that future success.
Despite the economic and societal challenges that we face as a sector and as a nation, Carers UK sees this year as a springboard to raise the profile of carers and the challenges that they face. When this year ends we will be undertaking a strategic review in order to develop our new strategy to launch in April 2027. As a member of the Senior Management Team this role will play a pivotal part in shaping the strategy, particularly in relation to our work in all three devolved nations.
Our health and social care services are under extraordinary pressure, the government in Westminster is reviewing so many of the key areas that impact unpaid carers. Elections in Wales and Scotland next year provide the opportunity to put carers front and centre of the campaigns. We believe that we have a burning platform to make fundamental change for unpaid carers like never before.
Our strategy focuses on three pillars: Equality, Support and Recognition, the new Director of the Devolved Nations will drive forward our ambitions with a strong policy focus across all three nations. Understanding the differences in how carers are treated, what carer issues are devolved in each nation, and by working across the nations have the ability to understand the changing landscape for carers whilst identifying and implementing solutions to support them in the future.
We have long-established relationships with national and local governments across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We work with policy makers, employers, health and social care providers, and other organisations with caring fundamental to their existence, in order to influence them to affect positive, lasting change.
I am pleased to enclose an application pack, which sets out the particular skills and experience we require from our Director of the Devolved Nations. It contains all the information you need about the appointment process and what the role involves.

- Who is able to proactively represent the charity, engaging a wide range of stakeholders.
