Background
The British Red Cross has been a lifeline for people in crisis for over 150 years.
Our belief in the power of kindness can be traced back to the creation of the Red Cross Movement. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement started in 1863 and was inspired by Swiss businessman Henry Dunant. He proposed creating national relief societies, made up of volunteers, trained in peacetime to provide neutral and impartial help to relieve suffering.
Today, in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, that lifeline means more than ever.
Strategy
Our corporate Strategy 2030 outlines three key goals
By 2030, we will work to ensure that:
- People are safe and able to survive and recover whenever disaster strikes
- People in the UK receive the care and support they need without falling through gaps in the health system
- People experiencing displacement feel safe, live with dignity and have choice and opportunity on their journey.
