Welcome
Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) has set out an ambitious and forward-thinking strategy—one that places people at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is clear: to support a safe, effective, and person-centred NHS that delivers real and lasting improvements in health and care across Scotland.
We are now seeking an exceptional leader to join us as Director of Nursing and Integrated Care—a high-profile, national role that will be instrumental in turning our vision into reality.
This is more than a leadership post. It is a unique opportunity to shape the future of nursing, midwifery, and allied health professional (NMAHP) practice across Scotland. You will be at the forefront of translating national policy into meaningful, measurable improvements that enhance care and outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.
As Director, you will play a central role in delivering on the First Minister’s commitment to shift the balance of care—ensuring more people can be supported closer to home, in ways that are right for them. You will lead transformative work across primary and community health services, championing initiatives such as Hospital at Home and ensuring they deliver tangible, life-enhancing benefits.
We are looking for a confident, credible, and compassionate professional—someone who can build strong, trusting relationships across the health and care system, influence change at the highest levels, and inspire teams to deliver their very best.
You will be a collaborative leader and a strategic thinker, with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing health and care services today. As part of our senior leadership team, you will contribute to the overall direction and success of HIS, helping to shape a culture of excellence, inclusion, and innovation.
This role demands courage, resilience, and sound judgement. In return, it offers the chance to make a profound and lasting impact on the quality of care in Scotland—leading work that truly matters and helping to ensure that everyone receives the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
We look forward to receiving your application and learning more about the passion and experience you can bring to this vital role.
