The University’s Health and Safety Department are now developing a new leadership team to shape and drive the organisation through a period of transformational change. There will be three new Deputy Directors: Deputy Director Health & Wellbeing, the Deputy Director of Core Services and Operational Management, and Deputy Director of Specialist Services.  The Health & Safety Department is responsible for leading change that will build on the existing safety, health and wellbeing management system, deliver continuous improvement and be well supported. Through this change the University will make measurable improvements with an observable positive impact for staff, students and visitors.

The role of Deputy Director, Health and Wellbeing will be a critical role to the success of this, and it’s an exciting time to join the team. The leadership team will work on a thematic basis, each area with their portfolios, working collaboratively to shape and deliver the approach. In order to embed our commitment we will be working in partnership with the wider university community. This will enable you to drive, shape and support partnerships within each of the six management areas of the University.

Building successful and strong partnerships will be at the heart of what you do and you will have a key role in the University Health and Wellbeing Committee.  Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline the successful candidate will also have a post-graduate qualification or equivalent.  Considerable experience of operating at a senior level in a diverse, complex organisation is essential as well as an open, supportive and visible management style.  You should have an understanding of occupational health and wellbeing challenges in a university context and be able to demonstrate skills and experience that will drive forward innovation and change.  You should also be able to evidence the delivery of successful organisation wide strategies and projects that made an impact.

Main responsibilities of the post:

  • Lead and be accountable for the development of the work programmes and staff performance.
  • Lead on the delivery of objectives identified for the University that require to be incorporated in the policy, guidance and arrangements.
  • Demonstrating leadership work in partnership and by building strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Measuring, monitoring and reporting on health and wellbeing performance of both the University and the service.
  • Deputise for the Director as required.
