Chief Executive

The Role

SCLD is a human rights defender organisation. SCLD’s Board of Trustees are looking for a dynamic and inspiring new Chief Executive who will help to realise their vision of a fairer Scotland where people with learning disabilities live full, safe, loving and equal lives.

This is an exciting point in history for the organisation, for a visionary and empathetic leader to drive and lead SCLD forward.

This is a great opportunity for a strong leader, successful change maker and champion for marginalised people.

The Chief Executive is responsible for delivering the vision, mission, strategy and operational activity of SCLD in collaboration with people with learning disabilities, the SCLD Board of Trustees, the staff team and their allies.

Key Role Responsibilities include:

  • Maximizing opportunities for people with learning disabilities to lead change.

  • Developing a robust strategy with the Board, Executive Team, and people with learning disabilities.

  • Partnering with the Scottish Government to influence policies and legislation.

  • Fostering a strong culture and vision to inspire stakeholders.

  • Driving change through international networks and partnership.

 

Key attributes include:

  • Experience in building leadership capacity among people with lived experience.

  • Be a visionary leader with a proven track record of driving change.

  • Understanding of the political and policy landscape in Scotland and the UK related to learning disability.

  • Experience influencing at senior levels, including collaboration with senior government officials and Ministers.

  • Leadership, management, and governance experience at Board level, preferably in a not-for-profit organisation.
